Despite loss, #ATLUTD and Arthur Blank big winners in epic opening night

6 Mar

The final score from the pitch at Bobby Dodd stadium on the Ga Tech campus was NY Red Bull 2 Atlanta 1. But in every other way the Atlanta United Football Club (@ATLUTD) inaugural game was a huge success.

The game was a sellout. ‘Fan Village’ set up in front of historic Bobby Stadium was filled with a diverse group of fans in full party mode. Some fans waited as long as an hour to buy their official ATLUTD garb at the store in Atlantic Station. Is that the hum of the money machine we  hear?

Once again the genius of ‘Uncle Arthur’ Blank was displayed in another successful sports business endeavor. Hats off to him and ATLUTD for their smashing debut

Family, Fun, and Football at #Falcons #NFLTrainingCamp on a Sunday morning

2 Aug

The Atlanta Falcons officially launched their training camp on July 31. But today parents grabbed their kids and packed the Falcons Flowery Branch HQ on a beautiful Sunday.

The team does a great job each year of connecting fans through the free and open training camp. Players like 1st round pick Vic Beasley take time to get up close and personal. 15 Feb

Valentines Day weekend 2015 it’s about Love and Basketball. The All Star Game weekend, College Basketball hurtling again towards March Madness, tributes to 2 of it’s greatest coaches in their passing share the spotlight with a holiday known for love and romance.

College BKB small schools

Love-College Basketball. Where athletes at smaller schools play more for ties to teammates, compete for championships, and the quest for glory on the hardwood.

Romance-The NBA All Star Game “The ASG in NYC”: Seduction from the Mecca of Basketball-Madison Square Garden. Dunk contests filled with gravity defying leaps, spectacular mid air acrobatics. 3pt shot Sharp shooters make it rain beautiful buckets from beyond the arc. And of course the chance to see NBA stars past, present, and future

Love-The outpouring of kudos and kind words for 2 of College Basketballs greatest coaches Dean Smith and Jerry Tarkanian who passed away during the week. Both men showed their love of the game and the student athletes that played for them. Smith did by the lifelong followup of all his players, Tarkanian through his relentless battles vs the NCAA to insure players rights in ever growing money machine of College Basketball.

Romance- We are thrilled by the greatness of NBA stars and the pursuit of championship glory by College and High School. As we do again our hearts flutter with the anticipation of what is to unfold on courts everywhere.

Super Bowl 46, Giants beat Patriots 21-17, Another Boston-New York Rivalry Simmers

7 Feb

Brady and Manning after SB 46                         New York’s  Manhattan Skyline

Boston’s Zakim Bridge

It was not unexpected the Giants beating the Patriots in the Super Bowl again. Although the Pats were 2.5 point favorites, the Giants were the favorites on the street. But because the  Giants are from NY it adds the Boston v. New York ‘thing’ to the story

Beantown vs The Big Apple. The teams are etched in to Sports lore.

Hockey-The Bruins vs The Rangers, Basketball-Celtics vs. Knicks, and course the biggest of them all: Baseball-Red Sox vs Yankees.

Football used to be little less intense between the Patriots and the Jets. The AFC East had been dominated by teams like the Dolphins. And timing wasn’t there. When the Jets were good, Patriots weren’t and vice versa. When Jets got Coach Ryan a few years ago it seemed like a Jet-Patriot theing has developed

The Giants have  beaten the Patriots 3 of the last 4 times, including twice in the Super Bowl to thwart the Patriots march to historical glory.

Looks like new players  in the rivalry  has been added.  Eli Manning vs Tom Brady, Giant Defense vs Patriot offense, Bellichick vs Coughlin.

Boston vs New York continues
